Las Manos sits on 15 acres of beautiful pinon pines...yes, the ones that produce "pine nuts".
Just a short 10 minute walk across the adjacent BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land, takes you to the Arkansas River.
We've put up 12 poles and topped them with flags that will direct you to and from the Arkansas River.
If you can't see the next flagpole, look at the bottom of the cairn the pole is in, and you will see a row of stones pointing to the next pole. You'll be crossing high desert full of grasses, pinon trees and wildflowers.
The yucca and prickly pear cactus bloom mostly in June, while the wildflowers are out from May through September.
The last pole at the Arkansas River is on the mainland beside the only island in this stretch of river. You can walk about one mile both north and south of this spot while exploring the river. Just remember where you started at this flag by the island.
Yes indeed, there is excellent fly-fishing for brown trout just a short walk from Las Manos. Rocks, holes, eddies and lots of flowing water make our two miles of river a worthwhile fishing destination.
One of our guests took this photo at low water in the fall of 2007. The small dot in the center of the river is a buck deer walking over to our side of the river.
We update the flags every year to make your river walk an easy and enjoyable one.
